Blavity’s Shadow and Act has the exclusive first look images debut for Netflix’s upcoming Tyler Perry film, Tyler Perry’s Joe’s College Road Trip.

It is the first film to feature Perry’s longtime character, Joe, as the lead character for the movie.

Per the logline, “In an effort to teach him about the real world, Joe takes B.J. on a cross-country college road trip where tensions get high but life-changing lessons are learned.”

Written and directed by Perry, the film stars Jermaine Harris and Amber Reign Smith, with Harris previously appearing in Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Destination Wedding, and Smith starring in Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black.

“Jermaine is a brilliant actor,” Perry told Blavity’s Shadow and Act exclusively. I had so much fun bantering with him. He is such a great talent and brilliant actor. It was a joy to work with him again. I hope to see him rise as far as his faith will let him. And when I saw Amber Reign Smith’s audition for this role, I was impressed. Her vulnerability in any role she plays gives life to every character as only a great actor can.”

What Tyler Perry says about the upcoming film

When asked why now was the perfect time to have a film centered on Joe, Perry told us, “Joe actually predates Madea. He was my first character but he’s always been the one that was more irreverent. The timing was right because I feel like he has a lot to say about the world today from a voice and point of view that was lost long ago.”

He added, “Joe is his own individual personality and gives a fresh although foul mouth voice to the franchise.”

When does the film premiere?

This is Perry’s latest film in his Netflix partnership, following Tyler Perry’s A Fall From Grace, Tyler Perry’s A Jazzman’s BluesTyler Perry’s A Madea HomecomingTyler Perry’s Mea Culpa. The Six Triple Eight and Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Destination Wedding.
